We aren't the kind of people who see religious images in our breakfast toast, but today we witnessed a cross in the sky (or maybe it was the Scottish Saltire) above the San Giacomo dall'Orio Church in San Polo:

When we're in Venice, we can't resist taking photos of English-language t-shirts that make little or no sense. Here's one that we saw on a boy in the Fondamenta San Giorgio degli Schiavoni in Venice's Castello district. It reads:

Today's newspaper headlines announced the heat-related deaths of two elderly people in the region: a bicyclist and a tourist on the beach.

By creepy coincidence, we saw a body bag in a cardboard coffin as we walked past a funeral parlor in Venice this morning:
