Stalking the paparazzi in Venice
03/04/2010
While the paparazzi have been stalking Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and Angelina's hunky hubby Brad Pitt during their stay in Venice for the shooting of The Tourist, Cheryl has been tiptoeing after the paparazzi--partly because turnabout is fair play, but also because they're fairly easy to spot.
Below are snapshots from Cheryl's paparazzi prowl this morning with her companion, the Brangelina-obsessed star of Maggie in Venice. You'll also see photos of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie's movie set on the Grand Canal:
The paparazzi hang out at a bar near the Palazzo Mocenigo, where the Pitt-Jolie clan are holed up while Angelina and Johnny provide fodder for Hollywood gossip columnists.
Cheryl grabbed a stealth photo of these two men , who appeared to be either paparazzi or lookouts, at the San Toma traghetto pier across the Grand Canal from the palazzo where filming has been taking place. (See below.).
Cheryl and Maggie weren't sure what to make of this wheeled cabinet and cable on the San Marco side of the canal. Maybe the equipment was supplying electricity for lighting a movie set? (If you know anything about electrical gear, feel free to leave a comment!)
Here's a close-up of the equipment cabinet, which had been covered with a tarp to protect it from last night's heavy rain.
Cheryl and Maggie were also intrigued by these cables that fed through the window of the Albergo San Samuele...
...and by the Telcom Italia boat that was parked at the end of the canal.
Nearby, the Palazzo Pisani-Moretta was still set up for a balcony scene with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie that had been filmed several nights earlier.
While Cheryl and Maggie watched, a crew member took a cigarette break on the balcony that bore traces of the DNA from Johnny Depp's shoes.
Below the balcony, at water level, the Palazzo Pisani-Moretta's entrance doors had been decorated with the name and logo of the Hotel Danieli. (The real hotel is nowhere near the Grand Canal; it faces the Riva degli Schiavoni, a pedestrian promenade on St. Mark's Basin.)
Cheryl snapped this photo of an old-style vaporetto that had just emerged from a side canal, the Rio San Polo, which is next to the Palazzo Pisani-Moretta. That canal isn't on any vaporetto route, so we're assuming that the water bus is being used in The Tourist.
